The first INTEREG Latvia-Lithuania Cross-Border Co-operation Program “Creating a Network of Healthy Basketball Enthusiasts in Venta River Communities” project basketball match between Akmenė district and Saldus city men and boys born in 2005 took place in Saldus, Latvia.

2014-2020 The Interreg V-A Latvia-Lithuania Cross Border Cooperation Program aims to contribute to the sustainable development of the Program area by making it an attractive and competitive place to live, work and visit. This project is implemented by the Latvian Sports and Leisure Club together with the Latvian partner Saldus. The main goal of the project is to create an international network of healthy basketball enthusiasts in Saldus and Akmenė districts.

The project will run until 31.03.2019. The total budget of the project is 230766 EUR. The project is co-funded by the European Union. It will be attended by Akmene, Venta and Papile communities, as well as Saldus, Kalni and Zirni communities from the Republic of Latvia. A basketball game that is enjoyed and played in both countries will bring communities closer together, providing a new impetus for greater collaboration in healthy lifestyles and sports. This project will also encourage community members in Lithuania and Latvia to become more involved in the processes that influence their daily social lives, and to increase their commitment and confidence in solving their problems.
